Teaching Online Marketers How To Create A Dream Lifestyle

The Laptop Lifestyle -Tales from a UK Digital Nomad, Week 5

Wow, what an experience. [ Main Pic. West Somerset Railway at Blue Anchor Bay Station, Somerset]

5 weeks and 5000 miles later on my constant travel around the UK and I have to admit. It’s time for a well earned rest. Driving can be exhausting..

I am currently in Chichester, West Sussex for a few days at my cousin’s house.

Charlestown, Cornwall

I am just starting week 6 of my travels around the UK & Beyond. This digital nomad life has it’s fair share of ups and downs and may not appeal to everyone, however despite a few early ups and downs, so far it’s been a great experience.

I’ve seen more of the UK in the last 5 weeks than I’ve seen in my entire life.

This last week alone, I have revisited places I haven’t seen since I was a child,  in Somerset (Minehead and Blue Anchor Bay).

I started my travels off last week by driving down to Plymouth in Devon, this is approximately 190 miles south of London. I arrived late in the afternoon and the traffic was building. The harbour in Plymouth looks great, it was getting late so I was looking forward to putting my feet up in an AirBnb I had booked..

There are lots of steep hills in Plymouth. I used the SatNav to find the address and was warmly welcomed. It was a nice place, a bit cold but it was quiet. The very next day, I moved on to Newton Abbot.

Dartmoor, Devon

This was my second AirBnb experience and it was a good one. The couple who owned the property were entrepreneurs themselves, so we had a lot in common.

I have often been asked on Facebook, why I don’t stay longer in some of the places I’ve visited. This is a good question. I am really doing a sorting process at the moment, I’m looking to rediscover my home country, the country I spent most of my life but didn’t see much of.

So, I’m cherry picking areas to revisit in more detail at a later date…

The Laptop Lifestyle – Is It All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

Obviously I can’t speak for others. I have noticed some Digital Nomads calling it a day after a few months/weeks and going back to having a fixed address etc. However, lots of digital nomads are living a great life in exotic countries.

You have to be realistic. Not everywhere has good Wifi. Even though I have mobile wifi on the laptop (Thanks BT Wifi Fon), even this can’t be picked up everywhere, however some places that I have  stayed at have had good Wifi (so does Costa’s & Mcdonald’s etc).

Also, if you are constantly travelling, you may skimp on work, as this can be your bread and butter, always make sure you find some time to deal with Income producing activities. You need to keep building your business, or you’ll end up spending more than you’re making… and this is so easy to do if you are not careful.

If you are travelling by car, you have petrol, you have food costs and you have accommodation. This can amount to quite a bit, so to keep costs down, you could apply the following.

Boscastle, Cornwall

The Laptop lifestyle – How To Keep The Costs Down

1). If you have friends or relatives who could put you up now an again, this would save a bit. or/and, you could go housesitting   yes, people will let you house sit and look after their homes while they are away. One of my good online marketing friends has a 3 month house sit in Canada coming up. That’s 3 months of Free accommodation, wifi and the owners have even given her 3 months use of their car.. .I know, it sounds crazy, right?..

2) Don’t keep eating fast food. I was guilty of this for the first few weeks, I ate it ever day and put on a whole load of weight around the waist. Buy some healthy food from the supermarket and find AirBnB’s that will allow the use of their kitchen. If the worst comes to the worst, go into a supermarket, or a subway shop and order a salad…

3) I did a lot of Zig Zagging across country at first in the car. This led to a lot unnecessary petrol use. I was like a kid in a candy shop at first and wanted to travel “everywhere” in the UK. It’s best to plan your route daily and go the quickest (or most scenic) way. It’s your choice, whatever way you choose..

This week I visited, Devon and Cornwall, specifically Plymouth, Newton Abbott, Dartmoor, St Austell, Charlestown, Bridgewater, Taunton, Torquay, Paignton & Boscastle, and in Somerset, Minehead, Blue Anchor Bay & the Medieval village of Dunster.

I will be hitting Europe and the rest of the World at some stage, but for now it’s the UK for me.

I hope you got some value from this post, if you did, do leave a comment in the comment section below. And if you have been thinking of going on your travels. Do it while you can. Who knows what might happen down the road.

Have an Awesome week

Keith

P.S You can travel anywhere if you have the right online business, and of course if you take plenty of action. This is one of the streams of income I have helping me power my travel.

  2. Sounds like you are a single man, Keith. I never considered that until this post. I am sure this lifestyle would be a bit more hectic with an entourage (insert smiley face here).

I think most people who do this are either single or are a couple. Saying that, in one of my old Network Marketing companies, there was a whole family that did this and led this kind of life, but generally I would say singles or couples..

  3. Thanks for sharing your travels and points on living a Digital Nomad Life…

I prefer to travel and visit, but to keep my entrepreneur lifestyle in my home office 🙂

Love having my puppies sleep on my feet

  4. Sweet depiction of the laptop lifestyle! Though I’m more of a home body myself, still awesome to show what’s truly possible. AsEric Worre often says, our way isn’t perfect, it’s just better.

  6. [ Smiles ] One of the nice things about having a laptop is, that you can take it everywhere you go!

  7. I love the Energy you have Keith, I definitely Love having Roots somewhere. A place I plant my self for a while between trips, preferably every weekend, which is just how I like it. Yet I enjoy checking in to see where you have planted your Laptop for the night. Way to go
